Carve my name on a tree

Carving your name on a tree may seem like a fun way to leave your mark, but it's important to consider the impact it may have on the tree. Carving can cause permanent damage to the bark and open the tree to pests and diseases. If you still want to carve your name, try to keep it small and shallow to minimize damage, but keep in mind that it's best to find other ways to commemorate the experience that don't harm the tree.

I decided to donate a tree (through growingtrees.dk) instead of harming one. I only donated a single tree so I got a general "thanks for donating" certificate but I feel it's nice of them regardless. We planted trees with the school when I was in 4th grade (back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth) and I hope I get to do it myself again someday, but until then, this will have to do.
Harder to do than I thought! So it ended up just being my initials. Plus I was plagued with worries that it was vandalism and I’d be damaging the tree. Although this is a BIG tree. I’m sure it will survive. It’s actually one I have hugged on several occasions, because it has the right girth to be huggable, and I’ve been feeling pretty bereft without hugs during lockdown. Anyway ... it’s now my tree 🙂

It took me a long time but my name is carved on a tree on Pender Island in British Columbia
My best friends and I were going insane with boredom while waiting for the school bus. We were in the volleyball court of our school, doing random childish things by a bench when I grabbed a stick and just wrote "Lyka, Jill, and Jamie were here" on a tree nearest to me.

COMPLETED in late August/early September of 2011.
I carved my name and my questions/statements into my favorite tree. It's the middle Holly tree in the front yard of my Dads house. It felt awfully curious to be marking it so permanently.
Found the tree - just need to take a carving 'tool'
