It's sad that this lighthouse at Happisburgh, will fall into the sea in 30 years, due to coastal erosion.
I'm glad we managed to get up this lighthouse at Flamborough Head this summer. We learned that they're going to be replacing the old lens that you can see in my photos with a new lens that will serve better for a new LED system. The lens (all those prisms you see in my photo) and rotation mechanism is going to be removed and kept for the museum at the base. Other than replacing the odd bit for maintenance, it's pretty much original from the late 1800s. It was fascinating going up and learning about the history of British lighthouses from the tour guide. I hope to go back next year to see what the new LED lens is going to be like.
