I've been learning Vietnamese for about more than two years now.
I can now listen to a conversation (slow conversation) and guess the context.
I can also say complete basic sentences.
I have a Vietnamese girlfriend and she helps me a lot by practicing with her everyday.
I hope by the end of this year I will be able to listen to news in Vietnamese or watch a movie :D

Vietnamese (tiếng Việt) is the national and official language of Vietnam. It is the mother tongue of Vietnamese people (Kinh), and of about three million overseas Vietnamese. It is also spoken as a second language or a first language by many ethnic minorities of Vietnam. It is part of the Austro-Asiatic language family, of which it has the most speakers by a significant margin (several times larger than the other Austro-Asiatic languages put together).
