Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park spans 354,000 acres on the Big Island, encompassing active volcanoes Kīlauea and Mauna Loa, the world's longest volcanic chain. Visitors can drive the Crater Rim Drive to view steaming calderas and lava tubes like Thurston Lava Tube, hike trails through diverse ecosystems from rainforests to alpine deserts, and witness ongoing eruptions that have reshaped the landscape, including the 2018 Kīlauea summit collapse. The park also protects endangered species and cultural sites sacred to Native Hawaiians.
