Pastéis de nata are small Portuguese custard tarts consisting of a crisp, flaky pastry shell filled with a smooth egg custard, typically baked until the top is slightly caramelized. Originating in the 18th century at the Jerónimos Monastery in Belém, Lisbon, they are a common treat sold in bakeries across Portugal and often served warm with a sprinkle of cinnamon or powdered sugar alongside coffee.
