The Darjeeling Himalayan Toy Train is a narrow-gauge steam railway operating since 1881 between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling in India's West Bengal state. It covers 88 kilometers through steep gradients and sharp curves in the Himalayan foothills, using a zig-zag reversal system and loops to climb from 100 meters to over 2,000 meters elevation. The two-foot gauge tracks pass tea plantations, forests, and rivers, with journeys lasting up to eight hours on select heritage services. UNESCO recognized it as a World Heritage Site in 1999 for its engineering and scenic route.
