My boyfriend and I left for a road trip to Dallas on Saturday. We drove until we got to Decatur and rented a motel room for the night and had dinner at a nearby IHOP. The next day, we arrived in Dallas and ate lunch at a quaint little vegan restaurant in Oak Cliff: fried cauliflower wings with potatoes, corn, and mac n cheese, as well as peach cobbler bread pudding and strawberry lemonade. Then we rented a room in a hostel in Deep Ellum, where we just missed the drag brunch in the attached bar but caught part of a drag photoshoot afterwards.
During our two-day stay, we went to an aquarium and saw an anteater, a sloth, and an ocelot; and Rainbow Vomit, a bizarre art museum designed to simulate a living comic book. I also bought an overpriced spinach-blueberry-peanut butter smoothie and browsed a local bookshop/publisher (a Shirley Jackson anthology was sadly out of my price range at $40). The highlight of my trip, however, was seeing one of my favorite bands, Bikini Kill, perform at The Factory in Deep Ellum!
I had an absolutely amazing time and think this road trip helped me expand my comfort zone and grow as a person. I can’t wait to go on my next road trip!
