Sanchi Stupa is a large hemispherical brick structure in Madhya Pradesh, India, built in the third century BCE under the patronage of Emperor Ashoka. The monument consists of a central dome surrounded by a stone railing and four elaborately carved gateways that depict scenes from Buddhist narratives. It served as a reliquary for relics of the Buddha and as a focal point for early Buddhist monastic activity. The site also includes smaller stupas, temples, and monastic remains that span several centuries of construction and renovation.
