Last November I made a new friend. This lady had come to the UK with her son from China and came to the museum I volunteer at. She told me she'd just moved here and was trying to navigate this new life here. She was really lovely and I asked her if she wanted to go for coffee and I could tell her about the city and things she might need to consider for herself and her son. Well, it turns out we had loads in common! We hang out all the time and she's now teaching me Chinese! Turns out that Chinese isn't that difficult. Obviously the written form will take a bit more effort but speaking is not that bad! Trying to remember the tones is a bit tricky, but just like anything else, the more you practice, the easier it gets. We're just going through the HSK1 workbook at the moment, and I'm enjoying it!
I've divided the goal into three phases:
1- Basic (beginner): by finishing this phase I should know the basics and the tones and be able to write some basic radicals. Also be able to say full sentences (basic and common)
2- Intermediate: Be able to listen and guess the context. Say more complex sentences. Can write full sentences
3- High intermediate: Be able to listen and speak with the help of somone
After finishing these three phases I think the next step should be to start practicing with someone.
