This spot was where his body was originally buried. Hardly anyone came to his funeral and over time it was forgotten. Brush overtook his resting place. He was later moved along with his wife and mother in law to a more reputable place. The people of Baltimore collected funds to give them a proper headstone.
I recently went to Baltimore for an unexpected work trip and was able to extend my stay so that I could visit Edgar Allen Poe's Gravesite!
